To bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world rural challenges. We aim to empower students to use their journalistic skills to highlight local issues, thereby fostering social responsibility and civic engagement.
Beed district has unique socio-economic challenges. Our journalism students are mandated to spend 40 hours per semester in surrounding villages. They document issues related to agriculture, water scarcity, and local governance. These reports are then published in our monthly college newsletter, "Rural Voices", and shared with local administrative authorities.
Students have produced over 200 field reports. Two major local issues highlighted by our students resulted in direct intervention by the district administration in the past academic year.
To impart foundational computer skills to underprivileged students in Zilla Parishad schools, while simultaneously developing leadership, communication, and teaching skills in our Computer Science undergraduate students.
Recognizing the digital divide in rural education, the Department of Computer Science initiated a "Tech-Mentorship" drive. Final-year BCS and BCA students form groups and visit assigned rural schools every Saturday. They conduct workshops on basic internet usage, cyber safety, and introductory coding concepts using interactive tools.
The initiative has reached 5 local schools, training over 500 school children. Furthermore, participating college students report significantly higher confidence in public speaking and project management during their campus placements.
In alignment with our commitment to environmental sustainability, VK College is currently developing a comprehensive "Zero Waste & Solar Campus" policy, scheduled to be formally implemented as our third institutional best practice in the next academic year.
